Over the years I found most of my time was spent educating my clients. Studies show that most people have no idea how money works. They've never been taught. Not by schools, churches or universities. So the cycle of financial illiteracy continues generation after generation, until we end up more and more behind every year.

Banks and credit card companies use the most persuasive and influential marketing strategies and practices to get you to borrow money and get into huge amounts of debt. The same thing is happening with the marketing department of almost every major company in America today. They are so sophisticated and powerful that they become "masters" at convincing us that we need to buy their widget or gadget or whatever product they are offering, in order to make all of our cares go away and bring all the happiness and joy into our lives that we've been seeking.

You know what we realized? We're much worse off. We now have a bunch of things and our money is all gone. We got duped into spending money we didn't have to buy things we didn't need to impress people that we don't even care about. And now all that we have left is this huge amount of debt to show for it.

So many people have told me throughout the years that they've heard all the different gurus on the radio and TV tell them that they have to use "this strategy" or "that strategy" to get out of debt or to save for their future and prepare their finances. They end up buying all kinds of products never really understanding how they fit together into an overall plan. It's like buying a bunch of separate puzzle pieces to different puzzles and trying to fit them together into a picture for your financial life.
